I’m Robert Bateman, and I’ve lived in Cheddleton for 27 years. This is my home, and I want to help make it an even better place to live.
I’m a former police officer and have also worked at Argos. I’ve supported young people as a Duke of Edinburgh leader and Scout leader, helping them build confidence, learn practical skills and enjoy new experiences.
Outside work and community life, I renovate Minis and enjoy rally driving. I love the challenge of getting a car running well and putting it through its paces.
I want to bring my experience and commitment to Cheddleton to the council — listening to residents, challenging decisions when necessary and standing up for our villages.
My priorities for Cheddleton
1. Stay ready to oppose a merger with Stoke
The Government’s plans to merge Staffordshire Moorlands with Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent have been delayed, but they are likely to return. We need to be ready to fight those plans and make sure Cheddleton’s voice is heard.
2. Improve local facilities for our children
Our children and young people need good-quality places to play, meet and enjoy. I want to see investment in local facilities that support families and help young people thrive.
3. Protect our environment and countryside
Our countryside is a huge part of what makes Cheddleton special. We oppose large-scale solar farms and inappropriate development. Future development must respect our villages and be supported by the infrastructure our community needs.
