I believe every resident deserves to feel safe, supported and listened to, and I am passionate about making sure our community’s voices are heard.\n\nAs a mother of three children with SEN and complex medical needs, I understand first-hand how challenging and overwhelming it can be to navigate the SEND and education systems. I know how exhausting it can feel when you are fighting for the right support for your child or family, and how important it is to have someone who will listen, understand and stand beside you. This experience drives my commitment to advocating for families and ensuring nobody feels alone when facing these challenges.\n\nI am passionate about tackling the issues that matter most to local people, including antisocial behaviour, crime, responsible planning, protecting our green belt, access to suitable housing and improving SEND support. I want to create a community where residents feel safe, families receive the support they need, and the character and green spaces of Hindley Green are protected for future generations.\n\nCommunity spirit is at the heart of everything I do. I volunteer with local groups and support causes through donations because I believe even small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference.\n\nIf elected, I will work hard to represent our community, listen without judgement, raise concerns and hold relevant services to account. I want residents to feel confident they have someone they can turn to when something is wrong.\n\nI am ready to listen, stand up for our residents and work tirelessly to help make our community a place where everyone feels valued, supported and heard.","statement_retrieved_at":"2026-11-02T13:32:19+00:00","parliament_member_id":null,"parliament_match_note":null,"photo_url":"https://candidates.democracyclub.org.uk/media/images/people/139553/3f293256-be28-46b2-b57d-d8c387da62d6.png","photo_copyright":"profile-photo","photo_uploader":"Mojoblackwhite","photo_source":"Uploaded by Mojoblackwhite: Approved from photo moderation queue","withdrawn_at":null,"parties":{"name":"Reform UK","colour_hex":"#12B6CF","emblem_url":"https://candidates.democracyclub.org.uk/media/emblems/PP7931/7762_Emblem_7762.jpg","official_site_url":"https://www.reformparty.uk/","emblem_description":"Emblem 1","parent_party_ec_id":null}},{"id":3541,"ballot_paper_id":"local.wigan.hindley-green.by.2026-11-12","dc_person_id":139559,"dc_person_url":"https://candidates.democracyclub.org.uk/api/next/people/139559/","name":"Daniel James Jackson","surname_sort":"jackson","party_ec_id":"PP52","party_name_on_ballot":"Conservative and Unionist Party","party_description_on_ballot":"The Conservative Party Candidate","homepage_url":null,"wikipedia_url":null,"statement_to_voters_present":false,"previous_candidacies_count":0,"is_incumbent":false,"retrieved_at":"2026-10-17T09:37:06.725854+00:00","statement_to_voters":null,"statement_retrieved_at":null,"parliament_member_id":null,"parliament_match_note":null,"photo_url":null,"photo_copyright":null,"photo_uploader":null,"photo_source":null,"withdrawn_at":null,"parties":{"name":"Conservative and Unionist Party","colour_hex":"#0087DC","emblem_url":"https://candidates.democracyclub.org.uk/media/emblems/PP52/7730_Emblem_7730.jpg","official_site_url":"https://www.conservatives.com/","emblem_description":"Emblem 1 Conservatives English logo","parent_party_ec_id":null}},{"id":3542,"ballot_paper_id":"local.wigan.hindley-green.by.2026-11-12","dc_person_id":97852,"dc_person_url":"https://candidates.democracyclub.org.uk/api/next/people/97852/","name":"Mark Prescott","surname_sort":"prescott","party_ec_id":"ynmp-party:2","party_name_on_ballot":"Independent","party_description_on_ballot":"","homepage_url":null,"wikipedia_url":null,"statement_to_voters_present":false,"previous_candidacies_count":2,"is_incumbent":false,"retrieved_at":"2026-10-17T09:37:06.725854+00:00","statement_to_voters":null,"statement_retrieved_at":null,"parliament_member_id":null,"parliament_match_note":null,"photo_url":"https://candidates.democracyclub.org.uk/media/images/people/97852/ac44c0ea-57e8-460b-9513-8d010b03051b.png","photo_copyright":"profile-photo","photo_uploader":"Mojoblackwhite","photo_source":"Uploaded by Mojoblackwhite: Approved from photo moderation queue","withdrawn_at":null,"parties":{"name":"Independent","colour_hex":null,"emblem_url":null,"official_site_url":null,"emblem_description":null,"parent_party_ec_id":null}},{"id":3543,"ballot_paper_id":"local.wigan.hindley-green.by.2026-11-12","dc_person_id":139187,"dc_person_url":"https://candidates.democracyclub.org.uk/api/next/people/139187/","name":"Rebecca Lee Shepherd","surname_sort":"shepherd","party_ec_id":"PP18382","party_name_on_ballot":"Restore Britain","party_description_on_ballot":"","homepage_url":null,"wikipedia_url":null,"statement_to_voters_present":true,"previous_candidacies_count":1,"is_incumbent":false,"retrieved_at":"2026-10-17T09:37:06.725854+00:00","statement_to_voters":"Rebecca has spent most of her adult life living and working in the Wigan borough, where she has built and run her own small business. Through that experience, she understands first-hand the pressures facing local businesses and working people across the community.\n\nLike so many residents, Rebecca has seen the growing impact of rising costs, increasing legislation, red tape, and bureaucracy, which continue to make everyday life more challenging for ordinary people trying to work hard, support their families, and stay afloat.\n\nPut simply - she understands what local men and women are going through.\n\nThis is the type of person we need in politics. Not career politicians, but genuine people with real life experience.\n\nRebecca is particularly passionate about improving SEND access and support across the local area. Her interest in SEND-friendly activities comes through the work she does within her Community Interest Company, where she has seen first-hand the importance of opportunities, practical support, and activities for people with additional needs.\n\nRebecca is standing for Makerfield because she believes local people deserve honest representation, accountability, and someone prepared to fight for the interests of the community rather than their own political careers.","statement_retrieved_at":"2026-11-02T13:32:21+00:00","parliament_member_id":null,"parliament_match_note":null,"photo_url":"https://candidates.democracyclub.org.uk/media/images/people/139187/23cfffb1-64a1-4241-8a6f-05146db5eba9.png","photo_copyright":"profile-photo","photo_uploader":"Mojoblackwhite","photo_source":"Uploaded by Mojoblackwhite: Approved from photo moderation queue","withdrawn_at":null,"parties":{"name":"Restore Britain","colour_hex":null,"emblem_url":"https://candidates.democracyclub.org.uk/media/emblems/PP18382/9308_Emblem_9308.jpg","official_site_url":"https://www.restorebritain.org.uk/","emblem_description":"Restore Britain (Monochrome)","parent_party_ec_id":null}},{"id":3190,"ballot_paper_id":"local.wigan.hindley-green.by.2026-11-12","dc_person_id":129872,"dc_person_url":"https://candidates.democracyclub.org.uk/api/next/people/129872/","name":"Nat Smith","surname_sort":"smith","party_ec_id":"PP63","party_name_on_ballot":"Green Party","party_description_on_ballot":"","homepage_url":null,"wikipedia_url":null,"statement_to_voters_present":false,"previous_candidacies_count":1,"is_incumbent":false,"retrieved_at":"2026-10-13T12:57:07.945588+00:00","statement_to_voters":null,"statement_retrieved_at":null,"parliament_member_id":null,"parliament_match_note":null,"photo_url":"https://candidates.democracyclub.org.uk/media/images/people/129872/ace4c00a-3f70-4fba-a5e0-cdc966f38564.png","photo_copyright":"profile-photo","photo_uploader":"Mojoblackwhite","photo_source":"Uploaded by Mojoblackwhite: Approved from photo moderation queue","withdrawn_at":null,"parties":{"name":"Green Party","colour_hex":"#02A95B","emblem_url":"https://candidates.democracyclub.org.uk/media/emblems/PP63/1119_Emblem_1119.jpg","official_site_url":"https://greenparty.org.uk/","emblem_description":"World with petals and Green Party name English","parent_party_ec_id":null}},{"id":3191,"ballot_paper_id":"local.wigan.hindley-green.by.2026-11-12","dc_person_id":7094,"dc_person_url":"https://candidates.democracyclub.org.uk/api/next/people/7094/","name":"John Melville Vickers","surname_sort":"vickers","party_ec_id":"PP53","party_name_on_ballot":"Labour Party","party_description_on_ballot":"","homepage_url":null,"wikipedia_url":null,"statement_to_voters_present":true,"previous_candidacies_count":4,"is_incumbent":false,"retrieved_at":"2026-10-13T12:57:07.945588+00:00","statement_to_voters":"A by-election has been called in Hindley Green.\n\nI'm standing as your candidate in this by-election on Thursday 12th November. This by-election is happening because of the sad passing of Councillor Bob Brierley, who served Hindley Green with such dedication and care.\n\nI have lived in Hindley Green for over 45 years. Like Bob, I was, and still am, extremely passionate about Hindley Green. I want the very best for you and everyone who lives here, many of whom I'm proud to call good friends.\n\nJust the other day, I saw first-hand how good it can be when everyone comes together – when we saw Kevin Sinfield run right through Hindley Green.\n\nMy record as your councillor over the last seven years speaks for itself. I've always worked in the community all year round, and I'm never afraid to get my hands dirty. At the same time, I've been a strong voice for Hindley Green and its residents in the Town Hall.\n\nFrom securing seating at the bus stop on Atherton Road to getting potholes fixed on Thomas Street to delivering £75,000 in funding for flood defences on Carville Grove, I take pride in practical improvements that make a real difference to everyday life.\n\nI've also stood up for you on planning. After I fought for you, Wigan Council changed its approach to planning across the borough, and the South Hindley development has now been shelved for years.\n\nI want to continue the work I've been doing and am doing, so I'm asking you to give me your vote on 12th November and allow me to keep fighting for you and our wonderful home called Hindley Green.\n\nJohn.","statement_retrieved_at":"2026-11-02T13:33:44+00:00","parliament_member_id":null,"parliament_match_note":null,"photo_url":"https://candidates.democracyclub.org.uk/media/images/people/7094/12162c39-5356-4658-b0c9-9f03e1770b21.png","photo_copyright":"profile-photo","photo_uploader":"Alex sharp","photo_source":"Uploaded by Alex sharp: Approved from photo moderation queue","withdrawn_at":null,"parties":{"name":"Labour Party","colour_hex":"#E4003B","emblem_url":"https://candidates.democracyclub.org.uk/media/emblems/PP53/52_Emblem_52.gif","official_site_url":"https://labour.org.uk/manifesto/","emblem_description":"Rose with the word Labour underneath","parent_party_ec_id":null}}],"claims":[]}
