He is a self-employed local businessman who has worked in Hardway for more than 20 years, he knows how hard local people work to keep businesses going and support their families. He believes local businesses deserve a fair chance to succeed, not a tax system that makes it harder for them to survive, invest and grow.\n\nHis connection to Gosport goes back to childhood. Born into a Royal Navy family, with his father serving in the Submarine and General service, Darren spent some years growing up in Hong Kong before returning to Gosport and settling in Rowner's naval quarters.\n\nAfter attending St Vincent School, Darren began his working life as a YTS with a local car body repair business. He also joined the Army Cadets as a young man and went on to serve in the Territorial Army for just under two years.\n\nDarren married Zoe, and together they raised their two boys in Gosport, who are now adults. He has supported local charities, including undertaking a skydive in aid of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) as well as a support kayak for charity swimmers in the Solent.\n\nDarren watched the work involved in standing up for Gosport and its residents and has supported Zoe in her public service duties.
